27 April,2026On April 27, the Peace Education Center opening ceremony took place at GSU. Mr. Aleksandre Mghebrishvili pointed out the importance of peace education, University’s mission to establish peace culture and raise awareness on peace education in his opening speech. Mr. Giorgi Volski, an honor guest, talked about the interim commission on restoration of territorial integrity and de-occupation initiative, that entails establishing peace education centers all over Georgian universities. Base of the institution is the state’s strategic vision to resolve conflicts peacefully, to consolidate Georgian citizens and to encourage students to participate in the peaceful process along the way.
Mr. Mikheil Pavlenishvili, Mr. Tamaz Bestaev, Mrs. Maka Beridze, Mr. Merab Beridze were among other guests to attend the ceremony.
Mr. Zurab Zurabashvili accentuated the strategic directions of the Centre, its academic and practical components etc in his speech. At the end of the ceremony, guests attended student members of the centre of Abkhazia “Meskhi Youth for Unity”, Samtskhe - Javakheti, presentation on modern approaches of conflict transformation, significance of dialogue and mediation, perspectives of regional relations and students' role in peaceful process. Chairman of the Unity for Tomorrow, a society of Abkhazian and Georgians, Mr. Giorgi Shervshidze, Mrs. Shorena Akhalaia, a representative of interim commission on restoration of territorial integrity and de-occupation, GSU administrative staff, Samtskh – Javakheti and Sokhumi University students attended the event.
