On May 23,2016, an event was held at GSTU, dedicated to the renowned teacher , honorable citizen of Gori  Michael Shaptoshvili.  A Guest from Israel, his wife, Meri Elishakova, representatives of Jewish house, Jewish museum, organization “Sokhnuti” and “Joinnti” were attending the evening. It was opened with the short documentary, dedicated to Michael Shaptoshvili’s life and work. Prof. Giorgi Sosiashvili, Aleksandre Mghebrishvili, Giorgi Khorbaladze, Eldar Mamistvalashvili, Ioseb  Chumburidze, Vano Chkhikvadze, Jemal Injia, Zaur Tsakadze, Robert Maghlakelidze, Zaira Davarashvili, Tsira Shaptoshvili  , Jamlet Khukhashvili  and Givi Ghambashidze gave  speeches and remembered late scientists and great citizen of this city.

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Meri Elishakova  thanked audience and Gori University for their fond memories of her late husband. Iakob Gogebashvili medal was given to Michael Shaptoshvili posthumously for his huge and unforgettable contribution  in developing the university and a scholarship was founded on his name for successful students. After the meeting  a special room was opened and named after him at GSTU.
